Last year I participated in the Schlitterbahn's Moms Ice Chest Challenge and shared our recipe for Smoked Chicken Salad here on the blog. It was awesome when I was selected as one of the contest finalists and awarded with not only tickets for my family to spend a day one of the Schlitterbahn Waterparks, but my family was also provided with use of one of their cabana rentals for the day. We made a weekend trip to Kansas City this year to finally get to enjoy the waterpark for the first time.
We visited Schlitterbahn Kansas City on Father's Day and it was an amazing way to spend some quality family time together. We all have so much fun on waterslides and it was fun to see my kids get to try new things as they are getting bigger and braver. One of the great things about Schlitterbahn though is that it is perfect for all ages from the littlest splashers, to the daredevils to those that like to be laid back and just float along for the day.

After we checked in we took our things to our cabana to set up our home base for the day. Our cabana was right by the bottom of the Verruckt waterslide so it was a lot of fun watching people go down and hear the screams! Verruckt is the world's tallest waterslide and I think it's awesome that it's here in the Midwest. If you want to ride it be sure to stop by as soon as you enter the park for the day as you'll be given a scheduled return time. It is first come first serve so a ride is not guaranteed. None of my kiddos meet the 54" height requirement for it yet though so we all decided to pass this visit. It really did look like a lot of fun though!
My kids wanted to do some fast water slides right away so they headed to the Cyclone and the Twister for the head-first mat slides. These were my hubby's favorite as well. In the same area is the Whirlwind fully enclosed slide that I had a lot of fun doing with a tube and also the double tube with my son.

My favorite thing to do at Schlitterbahn was King Kaw Rapids River. It is the the park's longest attraction and so much fun. I loved all the dips of the rapids and just floating quickly along in between. My daughter and I did it a number of times together. What I think is truly fabulous is how connected all of the attractions in the park are together. Honestly if you just wanted to get on a tube and float most of the day you could go from one end of the park to the other without getting out of the water. My kids and I went from King Kaw all the way down to the Torrent River and back. We also enjoyed the Storm Blaster Uphill Water Coaster and I loved all of the different tube chutes that take you to the river.

All of the tubes are provided for free to use along with a number of lifejackets. I love that there was a variety of tubes to use. My daughter did best with the double tube with a bottom on one side so she could just sit and have fun and not worry about falling through. There were even double tubes with bottoms that my baby boy could use too so that we could float along the river as a family.

A nice thing about Schlitterbahn Waterpark is that families are welcome to bring in their own ice chest of food and drink as long as there's no glass or alcohol. Schlitterbahn also offers free parking so if you pack your own lunch and snacks you'll only pay for your admission tickets. There's a ton of different chairs and picnic tables available for you to set up your own picnic. We brought our cooler full of drinks and snacks and did appreciate having them. We were spoiled though with being able to use the cabana. Your cabana rental for the day comes with a free locker, private beach chairs, towels and a bucket of ice cold water bottles. There is also a server that will come visit and take drink and food orders for you. We felt spoiled and it ended up coming in very handy when it decided to downpour during the middle of the day. We were able to enjoy a big platter of chicken wings without going out in the rain and it was Father's Day after all so as long as the dad was happy we were all happy.

We arrived at Schlitterbahn right at park opening that day with no expectation of how long we would be staying for the day. I ended up surprising myself when we stayed as late as we did knowing we had a several hour car ride back home. Even the afternoon thunderstorm couldn't keep us from having fun and we all agreed it is something we want to do again and again.
